One of the famous handicrafts of Ibaraki Prefecture is Kasama Ware, a ceramic ware made of the sticky Kasama clay from the area around Kasama City, which has been used as miscellaneous daily utensils. Many events related to Kasama Ware are held each season, and it is also enjoyed as a work of art. Yuki tsumugi, produced mainly in the area facing the Kinugawa River, is a luxury silk fabric with the oldest history in Japan and the pride of Ibaraki Prefecture. The entire process is done by hand, and the technique is registered as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. Lightweight, warm, and durable, Yuki Tsumugi is loved as a life-long kimono that becomes more and more beautiful the more it is worn.
