日本文化発祥の地
京都は、日本の歴史や文化に詳しい人ならほとんど紹介する必要がないほど、優雅で洗練された都市です。1500年もの間、日本の首都であった京都は、日本の芸術と建築の縮図であり続けています。その古い街並みを散策し、無数の神社仏閣を訪れることは、生きた歴史を体験することにほかなりません。
また、京都は伝統的な産物でも有名であり、京都には数多くの工芸品やアトリエがあります。京都の工芸品には、鮮やかな色彩の模様が特徴的な京焼の陶磁器があります。特に清水焼は、500年以上の歴史を持つ名窯です。
歴史
知と技の一世紀
現代の清水焼・京焼の代表格といえば、陶葊です。1922年の創業以来、土渕家4代にわたって、比類なき陶磁器を創造、革新してきました。創業者の土渕俊雄は、東京国立博物館のシンボルである瓦を製作しました。
土渕這褘の彫刻家としての技術、土渕善英のドイツでの技術習得、そして現当主の土渕 善亜貴の「花結晶」陶器のコレクションと、世代を超えて陶葊は発展してきました。
陶葊の歴史は、常に新しい技法への挑戦、改良、革新の連続であり、そのすべては、他にはない優雅で鮮やかな京焼を作ることを目的としています。この試みは、30年以上にわたる労苦の結晶であります。しかし、このアプローチの最終的な成功は、陶葊の作品の圧倒的な美しさと比類のない品質に現れています。
特徴
革新による美
陶葊の陶芸の特徴は、京焼の釉薬のかけ方を逆にしていることです。通常、焼成した陶器に釉薬をかけ、再び低温で窯に戻します。しかし陶葊は、土に直接絵付けをし、高温で焼成することを選択しました。
その結果、陶器が丈夫になるだけでなく、ガラスのような光沢を放つようになるのです。高温になると絵の具の鮮やかさが失われますが、陶葊は高温に耐える顔料を厳選して組み合わせ、透明感と表現力に優れた作品に仕上げています。
さらに陶葊のもうひとつの革新は、現当主の土渕善亜貴による「花結晶」コレクションです。釉薬が熱を帯びることで結晶化し、花びらのような模様が現れるのです。「花結晶」が陶葊で最も人気のあるコレクションとなったのは、そのためです。
