Bridge-and-Blend, a renowned incense company in Chuo City, Tokyo, beautifully blends tradition with modernity.

Chuo City, the heart of Tokyo, has a rich history dating back to the Edo period, thriving as a commercial center under Tokugawa Ieyasu.

The construction of the Nihonbashi and Kyobashi bridges marked its transformation. The Tokyo Stock Exchange, established in 1878 in Nihonbashi, cemented its economic importance.

Despite modernization, Chuo City maintains its traditional roots, showcasing a mix of modern skyscrapers and historical buildings.

This rich history and forward-thinking attitude make Chuo City the perfect home for a company that values both heritage and progress.

History

Driven by the desire to share the power of scent with the world

After her sense of smell weakened due to excessive stress, Hiro Nakayama, a fragrance producer, realized the great impact that scent has on people's lives and her passion to share that power with others was ignited. In 2008, he embarked on a journey into the world of scent.

With the mission of raising awareness of the sense of smell, one of the most overlooked senses, enriching sensibilities through scent and fostering creativity, he founded Project Felicia, a platform to explore the infinite possibilities of scent, in New York in 2013.

After many years in the fragrance world, Hiro first encountered incense when her mother passed away in 2015. He now believes that incense helped her heal the grief of losing her mother.

After that, she wanted to make incense herself, so she began studying incense and holding experience workshops.

As he researched, he discovered the surprising fact that the blend of six types of incense used in the workshop was the same scent as it was in Japan 1,000 years ago. Thinking that they might be the true "scent of Japan," Hiro began to share her discovery with workshop participants. As a result, he began receiving requests to purchase the blend of six types of incense as a product. Driven by her strong desire to preserve Japan's traditional scent for the next 1,000 years, he finally decided to commercialize it in 2021. This was the beginning of the incense brand "Bridge and Blend."

After living abroad for over 20 years, Hiro returned to Japan in 2017 and is spreading old and new "Japanese scents" from Japan to the world through her incense brand "Bridge and Blend."

The fact that each one is handmade on Awaji Island, where it is said that the first incense wood was washed ashore in Japan, speaks to the high quality of the product.
