Description
Onigawara roof tiles made of ceramic and stone will often survive the periodic fires that tend to burn down temples. That is why, onigawara made from stones and ceramics are more popular now compared to those made with wood.
This interior onigawara by Shinsuke Kamiya is a product of his commitment to living demons. The realistic expression of fangs that look as if they are about to bite, and the horns that look as if they are about to pierce, give this work a three-dimensional feel. The fearfulness of demons is conveyed to the viewer in a straight line. The artist's goal was "to create a work that anyone can feel the design of a demon." This means that the demon is "alive" as a demon.
We hope you appreciate the realistic expression of the onigawara.
