Description

Onigawara Iemori Atsushi Yamashita
Atsushi Yamashita

In the past, people used onigawara with scary faces as a charm against evil, with the hope of getting demons on their side to protect their houses. Nowadays, interior onigawara are created with gentle expressions on their faces.

This onigawara iemori with a gentle expression and a happy smile was designed and created by oni-shi craftsman Atsushi Yamashita. Good fortune and happiness will come to those who smile, just like this demon with a magnificent smile. The expression on the face, born from the wish to spend the year smiling, may even overturn the notion that demons are scary. The 12 beads on either side of the mask signify one year, representing the 12 months.

We hope that more smiling onigawara like this product will be decorated on people’s homes.

Beautiful but way smaller than expected

Love my new Onigawara statue, but I must say, I was shocked at how small it was. The pictures showed artists crafting pieces the same size as real ones on the roofs of so many historic buildings. I wish the site clearly specified the size.

Thank you for your review. It is true that the size listed on the website is the size of the base, not the size of the onigawara itself. Also, the process photos show the making of a 'real' onigawara, not an indoor onigawara, so I apologize for getting your hopes up. However, indoor onigawara can also be expected to have an amulet effect, so please enjoy them.
