Description

KIMOTO GLASSWARE Seiichi Kimoto
Seiichi Kimoto

Patterns are drawn on the surface of plain glass with gold pen when creating Edo Kiriko. The glass is then cut tracing the pattern using a blade made of diamond. As the surface of the glass becomes uneven after cutting, it is smoothened with a grindstone. Beautiful patterns emerge after using a polishing agent to remove rough drawing thus making it transparent.

The “Old Pair with Star Anise and Roe Patterned Glass” has a deep cut with a clear and gorgeous finish. The tiny dots resembling fish roe are lined to form a diamond shape. This traditional pattern called the “nanako pattern” is evident in ancient Edo Kiriko glassware. The fact that it is still used to the present day shows how timeless this pattern is. It is skillfully crafted to shine beautifully when the light reflects in all directions.

We hope that you enjoy the delicate craftsmanship of this piece of art with practical uses.
